8 Must-try Filipino Street foods

One way to get to know the culture of a place is through its food. AND one interesting way to get to know food is through street foods! Street foods are foods sold on the street and eaten on the street, usually, together with friends or classmates.To get you started, here are some of the most famous Filipino street foods around:

1. Isaw

If you want the classic street food experience, these chicken intestines will surely give you what you’re looking for. Vinegar with onions and a bit of chili is the perfect sauce for this hot stuff.

2. Kwek kwekkwekkwek
This orange ball of goodness is made with quail eggs and flour, deep fried to get that filling flavor!

3. Kikiam

kikiamAlthough weird looking at first, these brown elongated lumps made of vegetables, ground pork, and bean curd will give your taste buds an interesting journey to China, where it came from.

4. Fishball

fishballContrary to its name, fishballs don’t really look like balls. They are flat bite-sized pieces of batter made of cuttlefish or Pollock. Crispy or soft, you can choose which style you want.

6. Chickenball

chicken-balls—Like squidball, chickenballs are also shaped like balls. These white round balls are actually very yummy! It is still a mystery whether they actually contain chicken or not.

This is for all the Draculas out there who enjoy the taste of cooked blood. Betamax is usually dipped in vinegar with onions. If you don’t mind black bits sticking on your teeth then this is perfect for you.

8. Balut

Ah! Who does not know this legendary duck egg? The infamous balut will get you pumped up at the sight of the tiny duckling snuggling closely beside the yolk. You get lots of protein from this baby to give you the energy you need.
